#FaceOfScience Social Media Campaign Engages NIH Research Training Community

The Diversity Program Consortium engaged scientists across social media for its #FaceOfScience campaign on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. The campaign celebrated the research training community by highlighting the individual trainees, staff, faculty and leaders who make up the scientific research workforce. Several institutes and entities within the National Institutes of Health participated, including the main NIH social media accounts.

BUILD Scholars Present Their Research at the 2021 DPC Virtual Research Symposium

When the pandemic forced universities to shift their lessons online, research students lost the opportunity to present their work at in-person conferences. In an effort to fill this void, the Diversity Program Consortium’s Coordination and Evaluation Center hosted the 2021 DPC Virtual Research Symposium (VRS) from March 29 to April 2.

From Humble Beginnings to Doctor of Physical Therapy: A BUILD PODER Success Story

For Paulo Sitagata, earning an advanced degree used to seem unattainable. But through his perseverance and drive, he has gone on to become the first Cal State University Northridge (CSUN) BUILD PODER alumni to attain a doctoral degree.

UTEP BUILDing SCHOLARS Alumna Earns Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Tufts University

BUILDing SCHOLARS alumna Cecilia A. Hinojosa successfully defended her dissertation titled “Structural and Functional Brain Correlates of Treatment Response in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder” and received her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Tufts University. She is a graduate from the first BUILDing SCHOLARS program cohort.

Twenty-three XULA BUILD Project Pathways Trainees were honored during the 2021 Xavier University of Louisiana Commencement ceremony on May 8.

CSULB Celebrates Class of 2021

On Friday, May 7, 2021, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) BUILD held its commencement ceremony to honor the students who have completed their term with the program. Though the ceremony was held virtually, it still provided a space for family, friends, and the BUILD team to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the second year Scholar and Fellow students.

At the end of every school year, BUILD PODER scientists from California State University, Northridge who have completed their program participate in a Senior showcase. This is a graduation event that highlights their accomplishments as scientists, honors their mentors, and celebrates their acceptances into graduate programs.

Devin Drown, a BLaST-affiliated Researcher, Featured in Arctic Today Online

Devin Drown, a former BLaST Faculty Pilot Project awardee, was featured in Arctic Today, an online daily newsletter, along with Traci Haan. Haan was a BLaST Undergraduate Research Experience awardee and is now a graduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
