Science Magazine reports, "In response to a new rule governing overtime pay in the United States, the National Institutes of Health yesterday announced its new, increased postdoc stipend levels, which will go into effect December 1, 2016. The starting base salary will be $47,484, up approximately 9 percent from the 2016 level of $43,692 and just above the threshold of $47,476, below which employers are required to pay employees for overtime. The new rates apply specifically to those supported by Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSAs), but they are likely to be relevant to postdocs funded by other mechanisms as well because many institutions use the NRSA levels as guidelines for setting postdoctoral salaries."
